CONWAY, South Carolina – Four Chanticleers in Grayson McCall, Josaiah Stewart, Willie Lampkinand D’Jordan Strong all earned Pro Football Network (PFN) college football All-American preseason honors, it was announced Monday, Aug. 8.
Named 2022 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and earning a spot on the Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team for the second straight season, the Sun Belt Conference Double Player of the Year (2020 and 2021) went on to garner national attention ahead of the 2022 season.
In addition to now being named an Honorable Mention PFN College Football Preseason All-American, he was also named a 2022 Preseason All-American by Athlon Sports and earned a spot on both Athlon Sports and the Phil Steele’s 2022 preseason All-Sun belt first. teams earlier this offseason.
Named to the Walter Camp 2022 Player of the Year preseason watch list earlier this month, McCall was also named to both the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award and Maxwell preseason watch lists. award this season.
McCall set a new NCAA Division I FBS record by passing the efficiency rating to 207.6 last season in 2021, eclipsing the two previous records set by Alabama’s Mac Jones (203.1) in 2020 and Joe Burrow from LSU (202.0) in 2019. He enters the 2022 season as an active career leader in all NCAA Division I FBS in career passing efficiency at 196.09.
The winner of the 2021 Blanchard-Rogers Trophy, an award given to the best player in the state of South Carolina, McCall ranked in the top 25 overall in NCAA Division I FBS in 2021 in several categories offenses including – passing efficiency (207.6), yards per pass attempt (11.92), completion percentage (73.0), passing yards per completion (16.32), points responsible per game (17.6), passing touchdowns (27), passing yards per game (261.2), total offense per game (287.5), and points responsible for (194).

Selected to the All-Sun Belt First Team in 2021, Stewart broke the CCU’s single-season sack record with 12.5 sacks in his freshman varsity season in 2021. He also set a new CCU single-game tackles-for-loss record with 5.0 against the Eagles.
A 2022 Outland Trophy and 2022 Rimington Trophy preseason watchlist winner, Lampkin also earned PFN preseason All-American honors.
Lampkin, who was named to the preseason First Team All-Sun Belt, was also recently named to the 2022 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List along with Stewart.
Lampkin, who is entering his freshman year after starting and playing in all 25 CCU games over the past two seasons, is a two-time All-Sun Belt second-team selection and was a member of the Football Writers Association of America 2020 (FWAA), ESPN, 247Sports and Athletic All-Freshman teams in his first season as a Chant in 2020.
Selected this year by Phil Steele and Athlon Sports to the 2022 preseason all-conference first team, Lampkin was the highest-ranked offensive lineman in eight different games last year for the Chanticleers. Strong, who earned a spot on the preseason All-Sun Belt first team for the second straight year, was also named to the 2022 preseason East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 roster and both the preseason -season 2022 Phil Steele and Athlon Sports All-Sun Belt second teams this pre-season.
Strong played and started in all 13 games for the Chanticleers in defensive backfield last season. He led the team and was tied for second in the Sun Belt with 10 pass breakups on the year, while adding 26 tackles, including 19 solo saves on the season.
He recorded seven pass breakups in conference play, which ranked sixth in the Sun Belt, and anchored the “Black Swarm” defense which was second in the Sun Belt with fewest passing yards allowed (190 .3) and the fewest points allowed per game (21.6). He recorded a season-high four tackles and two breakups in the home win over UMass (Sept. 25) and also had four tackles in the 2021 Tailgreeter Cure Bowl win over Northern Illinois. (December 17).
