College football rankings: Alabama back to No. 1 in Top 25 preseason coaches

Alabama is No. 1 again.

The Crimson Tide open is No. 1 in the USA Today Sports UFCA Coaches poll, which was released Monday.

This is the seventh time Alabama has started the No. 1 season in the coaches’ poll. The Crimson Tide were No. 1 in the same poll last year. Alabama finished 13-2 last season and lost 33-18 to Georgia in the College Football Playoff Championship game.

Alabama received 54 of 65 first-place votes.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 3 in this year’s poll after winning the program’s first national championship since 1980 last season. Georgia received six votes for first place.

Ohio State, which received five first-place votes, is ranked No. 2 in the coaches’ poll. The Buckeyes enter the fourth season of Ryan Day. The Buckeyes finished 11-2 last season.

Clemson and Notre Dame round out the top five. Michigan, which made its first college football playoff appearance, is ranked No. 6. Texas A&M, Utah, Oklahoma and Baylor round out the top 10.
