DC Film Girl reviews three summer movies

DC Film Girl reviews ‘Bullet Train,’ ‘Prey,’ and ‘Thirteen Lives’

JENNIFER: THANK YOU, TAYLOR. NOW IT’S TIME TO SEE WHAT’S NEW IN THEATER THIS WEEKEND. OUR FILM CRITIC LAUREN VENIZIANI IS JOINING US LIVE THIS MORNING. HI, LAUREN. WHAT A GREAT SEE YOU. LAUREN: IT’S GOOD TO SEE YOU TOO. I WILL BE BACK IN THE STUDIO AT SOME TIME, I PROMISE. JENNIFER: YES! I’M SO EXCITED. “BULLET TREN”, AFTER SEEING “TOP GUN”, IS IT THAT GOOD? LAUREN: IS THE ACTION COMEDY STARRING BRAD PITT. IT IS DIRECTED BY THE GUY WHO DIRECTED “DEADPOOL”. KNOW HIS ACTION FILMS. IT IS ABOUT FIVE ASSASSINS WHO GET ON A BULLET TRAIN FROM TOKYO TO KYOTO. ON BOARD THEY FIND THAT ALL THEIR MISSIONS HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON. IT ALSO STARS JOEY KING, MICHAEL SHANNON AND SANDRA BULLOCK, WHO PERFORMS MANAGING BRAD PITT. JENNIFER: I DIDN’T KNOW THAT. LAUREN: IT’S MAINLY ON THE PHONE. I LOVE BRAD PITT SO MUCH AND AN ACTION/COMEDY/DRAMA, IT’S FANTASTIC. YOU CAN SAY HE WAS HAVING FUN IN THIS MOVIE. I ENJOY THIS DIRECTOR SO MUCH. I WAS EXCITED ABOUT THE MOVIE. I SAW THE TRAILER MANY TIMES. BUT WHEN YOU’RE WATCHING THE MOVIE YOU DON’T LEARN ENOUGH ABOUT EACH OF THE CHARACTERS, ESPECIALLY THE CHARACTER OF BRAD PITT, TO KNOW WHO THEY ARE, WHAT THEY’RE DOING AND WHAT’S HAPPENING. THERE ARE SOME FUN ACTION SCENES AND VERY FUN DIALOGUES FROM BRAD PITT AND AARON TAYLOR JOHNSON. AFTER AN HOUR AND A HALF I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO IT ENDING AND THE MOVIE IS TWO HOURS AND 10 MINUTES. I FEEL IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER MOVIE OVERALL IF IT WAS AN HOUR AND A HALF. I THINK IT’S A GREAT CAST WITH A PROMISING PREMISE, BUT IT ENDED UP TOO SLOW FOR ME FOR AN ACTION MOVIE. I WILL GIVE HIM THREE OUT OF FIVE. I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED. GREAT CAST, SOME GREAT ACTION SCENES, BUT I DON’T THINK I NEEDED TO SEE THE THEATRE. JENNIFER: IT WASN’T AS FAST AS IT SHOULD BE. WHAT ABOUT “PREYA”. LAUREN: THIS JUST CAME OUT ON HULU. I SAW IT LAST NIGHT AND I’M GLAD I DID IT, IT’S AWESOME. THIS IS THE ORIGIN STORY OF THE “C”PREDATOR” SERIES. THE LAST YEARS AGO WAS TERRIBLE BUT THIS IS VERY GOOD. IT IS 300 YEARS AGO AND ABOUT A YOUNG WARRIOR WHO MET ONE OF THE FIRST HIGHLY EVOLVED PREDATORS. IT IS TE GOT IT FROM THE BEGINNING THE LEAD ACTRESS WHOM I DIDN’T KNOW WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HER IN MORE ACTION ROLES THE ACTOR PLAYING THE PREDATOR IS AMAZING AND THEY ALSO USE CGI BUT ALSO FACE MAKEUP BUT IT LOOKS VERY WELL. THE VISUAL EFFECTS ARE VERY SUBTLE AND AMAZING. I WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED BY THIS MOVIE. MUCH MORE ENTERTAINING THAN “BULLET TRAIN” WAS NOT GOING TO SEE IT BUT I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. VERY FUNNY. I GIVE IT A FOUR OUT OF FIVE. FEMALE LED ACTION JENNIFER: I’M ALREADY CONCERNED BECAUSE THE OPENING SEQUENCE SHOWED A DOG LAUREN: I THINK YOU’LL LIKE THIS MOVIE, ESPECIALLY THE DOG IS A GOOD CHARACTER WITH HER AND HELPS HER A LOT WITH THE PREDA COLI NA. I THINK YOU WILL ENJOY THIS MOVIE AND YOU WILL LIKE THE DOG. HE IS A HUGE PART OF HIS CHARACTER IN THE MOVIE. JENNIFER: GOOD. I’M JUST WORRIED THAT SOMETHING WRONG WILL HAPPEN TO THE DOGS. LAUREN: YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO ASK AND I LOVE THAT. [LAUGHTER] JENNIFER: I ALWAYS WORRY. “13 LIVES”. LAUREN: THIS TELLS THE TRUE STORY OF THE THAILAND FOOTBALL TEAM THAT WAS TRAPPED IN THE UNDERGROUND CAVES DUE TO FLOODING. I REMEMBER THE STORY WAS A WORLD NEWS PHENOMENON YEARS AGO AND THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT THE RESCUE MISSION OF THE EXPERT DIVERS, PLAYED BY VIKA MORTENSEN AND COLIN FARRELL, WHO ARE TRYING TO SAVE THE YOUNG PEOPLE UNDER THE COACH FROM BEING TRAPPED UNDER UNDERGROUND. IT IS DIRECTED BY RON HOWARD. AN AMAZING DIRECTOR AND YOU CAN SAY THE MAKING OF CINEMA OF MADNESS WAS TO MAKE THIS MOVIE. I FEEL CLAUSTROPHOBIC WHILE WATCHING THE FILM. I HAVE NOT FINISHED THE MOVIE YET. I HAD TO FINISH YESTERDAY SO I WILL NOT GIVE THE FULL RATING BUT IT IS 2.5 HOURS LONG. I ALWAYS LOVED VIGGO MORTENSEN AND COLIN FARRELL AND THEY WERE GREAT. I ALWAYS ENJOY IN THESE MOVIES AND RON HOWARD IS A GREAT DIRECTOR. I CAN’T WAIT TO FINISH, BUT IT’S CURRENTLY ON AMAZON PRIME AND SELECT THEATERS. I WILL DEFINITELY FINISH IT. JENNIFER: THAT SOUNDS GREAT. WE WILL HAVE TO TRY THAT. WHAT COMES ON THE HORIZON? WHAT CAN WE EXPECT? LAUREN: I MEAN, WHAT ELSE AM I WAITING FOR? I’M TRYING TO THINK OF OTHER AWARD FILMS COMING OUT. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? JENNIFER: I WAS WAITING FOR THE TRANSMISSION OF “ELVIS”. LAUREN: DID YOU GET IT? JENNIFER: I DIDN’T BUT I WANT TO. LAUREN: YOU DEFINITELY HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT. AUSTIN BUTLER IS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. REALLY GOOD. JENNIFER: I HEARD IT’S AMAZING. WE APPRECIATE IT. SEE YOU NEXT WEEK. LAUREN: SEE YOU LATER. JENNIFER: YOU CAN FOLLOW LAUREN, KNOWN AS “THE DC MOVIE GIRL,” ON FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM
