Detailed review: ‘F9’ is the most boring movie in the ‘Fast and Furious’ series

Detailed ‘F9’ review: For director Justin Lin, making Fast 9 should have been a left-handed game. After all, he directed the first Fast and the Furious movie. After that, he also directed movies 5 and 6 of this series. It is said that after Fast 9, no more movies will be filmed in this series, that is, it will be the last movie and it had to be impressive. The film was released in theaters on May 19, 2021, and was the fifth highest-grossing film of the year. That’s probably why it took so long to launch it on OTT.

Surprisingly, compared to all the other movies in this series, this movie was considered the weakest. People stormed into theaters to see all the expensive movies that came out after Covid, so that movie went on too. Now available on Amazon Prime Video. Do not expect to see an action thriller with incredible stunts, you could be disappointed. It doesn’t seem like a fast series.

The series was fun to watch until Paul Walker and Vin Diesel and their gang members committed more than one crime, showing stunts while driving cars through dangerous places. Until the dialogues of the film, people were on his lips. Ironically, Paul Walker was killed in a car accident that left Fast and the Furious 7 unfinished. After some time, with the help of Paul’s brother Caleb and Cody, using special effects and computer graphics, the rest of the scenes were completed and the film was released.

Following movies like “The Fate of the Furious,” Fast and Furious Present Hobbs and Shaw, and Fast 9, all three movies struggle with the lack of Paul Walker. Vin Diesel could not direct the film alone and was accompanied by action actors like Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Alba and now John Cena, but he never enjoyed the calmness of Paul Walker before the furious gaze of Vin Diesel. balances the movies in this series quite well.

The story of Fast 9 also seems to have been written just because another anti-hero character was going to be introduced in the series and another sequel was going to be made in this series. Gary Scott Thompson created the main characters for the Fast and the Furious series. He is lucky that every time he appears in the credits of movies written about these characters. Chris Morgan, who is attached as the writer for the second film in this series, “Tokyo Drift,” is not the writer for the film, but this time Justin Lin hired Daniel Casey and Alfredo Botello to write. Here is the biggest mistake.

The story turns into a brief flashback where Dominic Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) father is killed in a race track accident. Angry at the world, Vin fights his brother and throws him out of the house. Years later, the same brother Jacob (John Cena), on a mission, is surprised by the best hacking device in the world, “Project Aris”, at the hands of Vin and his team. Vin’s own crew includes his girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), his sister Mia (Johanna Brewster), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), and Ramsay (Nathalie Emanuel).

In front, Vin’s brothers, Jacob (John Cena), Cipher (Charlize Theron) and Otto (Theu Rasmussen). While searching for Jacob, Vin and his team travel to different countries until they find Han (Sung Kang), who has been missing for years and is an old friend of Vin’s. Then there are also the same car chases, explosion scenes, pulling huge vehicles with magnets installed in the car, destroying vehicles on city streets, gravity-bending stunts, all guaranteed in the Fast and Furious series. What isn’t there this time around is the ability to engage the audience in the story.

Vin Diesel should rethink his character and his performance. Action series movies don’t have much acting scope, but after giving the character new dimensions, one can at least think about acting him in a new way. He continues to outshine Dominic Toretto’s character in every movie. Michelle Rodríguez played a better character and actor than him. Whether it’s action scenes or emotional scenes, it looks quite easy. Sung Kang’s entrance could have been better since he was seen with the gang after a long time. However, they don’t have any particular job to do. John Cena can’t act and is an action star, but why he accepted this role is incomprehensible.

Charlize Theron is also a great actress, why did she work in this movie for such a small role, when her role in Fast 8 of the same series was very big and important? The rest of the cast is in good shape in their respective roles as they did, they are also doing the same this time. His characters were neither the main ones before nor the main ones now. Dwayne Johnson probably won’t be back on this show because he’s not done with Vin Diesel. If Dwayne isn’t here, even Jason Statham won’t be back. By the way, the filming of Fast 10 has started and it will be released in 2023.

Stephen F. Winden, the cinematographer for nearly every movie in The Gray Man and Fast and the Furious series recently released on Netflix, has also taken over the camera this time around. Maybe this time there wasn’t a lot of detail in the action footage and therefore the camera didn’t look amazing. The scene of a car crashing into a satellite in space seems ridiculous. The entire crew of approximately 250 people, along with stunt coordinators Andy Gill, Gregory Barnett, and Geoffrey Barnett, were involved in the making of this film.

There were also some amazing stunts, but they were weak compared to the previous movies in the series. What might have brought some fun here was that the audience got emotionally attached to the stunt, but this time they stayed away from the movie. Fast 9 may have done wonders at the box office, but fans of this series will always consider it a weak movie. Hopefully something new and big will be seen through Fast 10 because this time the director of Fast 10 is not Justin Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titan, Transporter, Incredible Hulk, etc.). Although it is fun if you see it as a fast series movie, it is not the best movie in this series.
