Christian McCaffrey has workload monitored at camp

The Panthers implemented a unique training plan for running back Christian McCaffrey of “free days interspersed with unconstrained practice” this training camp to manage his overall pre-season health according to NFL.com’s Grant Gordon. . (Source: Grant Gordon, NFL.com)

Fantastic impact: The oft-injured running back took the “days off are important” approach, but also added that he works a lot with coaches and strength and conditioning coaches on those days as well. McCaffrey is looking to play a full season for the first time since 2019 when he rushed for 1,387 yards and carried another 1,005 through the air while combining for 19 touchdowns. Since then, he has only played 10 out of 27 games over the past two seasons due to various ailments. Before injuries started showing up, McCaffrey had played 48 straight games to start his career. Even with all of his injuries, McCaffrey still averages 4.6 yards per carry for his career, having amassed 3,587 rushing yards and 30 rushing touchdowns. Even more amazing, he has almost that many receiving yards, 3,015, for 8.4 receiving yards and 17 additional touchdowns, which reminds fantastic managers why they are willing to pay the high first-round price for McCaffrey. They also all hope that this health management plan also works and that McCaffrey can return to his “Run-CMC” days that led to him being named All-Pro in 2019.

Kareem Hunt misses training pending extra time

According to CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson, RB Kareem Hunt has missed team drills with the Cleveland Browns for the second straight day as he awaits a contract extension. (Source: Josina Anderson on Twitter)

Fantastic impact: It’s not news that Hunt wants a new contract, but it’s news that he’s not training anymore. Hunt enters 2022 the final year of his contract and, according to Anderson, told members of the organization that he would like to be paid or traded. According to Spotrac, Hunt’s market value is around $7 million a year, and paired with RB Nick Chubb, the Browns had one of the best RB tandems in the league. He averaged nearly 70 scrimmage yards per game and scored 19 touchdowns in three seasons at Cleveland. Whether paid or traded, Hunt maintains the low-end RB2 at the high-end flex value when playing as well as the handcuff value associated with Chubb.

Elijah Mitchell seems to be clearly RB1 in San Francisco

Sophomore RB Elijah Mitchell appears to be the clear RB1 for the 49ers this season. (Source: Nick Wagoner on Twitter)

Fantastic impact: The 49ers have a reputation for switching RBs all the time, but it looks like they’ve finally found the guy they’ve been looking for. Mitchell has thrived after taking over last season, and it looks like the team wants him to continue in charge. If he gets the bulk of the job in San Francisco, he’s an absolute steal at his current ADP.

Khalil Herbert should be more involved in 2022

Bears RB Kahlil Herbert has worked with the first team in training, and he’s expected to be a lot more involved in 2022. (Source: Chris Emma on Twitter)

Fantastic impact: Herbert has impressed with the small opportunities given to him during his career, and now it looks like the coaching staff really want to involve him in the attack. He’s got first-team reps in practice, and it’s said to be more of a split backfield than people realize. If true, this news makes Herbert a valuable late pick, and it could hurt some of the value David Montgomery brings with his projected workload.
