Football Fall Camp 2022: Rice-Eccles preview, September home games

The University of Utah football season is fast approaching with the Utes hosting six games inside Rice-Eccles Stadium in 2022 as Utah fans continue the tradition of making RES one of the toughest stadiums to play each season.

During fall camp, will dive deep into the house schedule while hearing voices from past and present about the incredible atmosphere that Rice-Eccles provides.

The Utes will host two games in September, playing Southern Utah on September 10 and San Diego State on September 17.

Utah and Utah South have faced each other once, in 2016, when Utah played Utah South in the season opener. The Utes recorded their first shutout since 2012 and earned a 24-0 win. troy williams made his first start as an Ute and threw for 272 yards with two touchdowns. Tim Patrick had 105 receiving yards on five catches with two touchdowns. Cody Barton led the Utes with a career-high 11 tackles and Kylie Fitts had 1.5 sacks on the game.

The Utes-Aztec rivalry continues into 2022 when San Diego State visits Rice-Eccles Stadium on September 17. In the 2008 season, Brian Johnson kept Utah’s No. 7 on a run that broke the BCS by throwing a five-point touchdown. passes in a 63-14 win over San Diego State on Saturday night. With the win, Utah improved to 11-0 this season and clinched a share of the Mountain West Conference title. Utah went on to have a perfect 13-0 season and claim a 31-17 Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama.

Time is running out as Utah prepares to travel to the Swamp in Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday, Sept. 3 to take on the Florida Gators. The game will air at 5 p.m. MT on ESPN.
