IND vs. SA: Rohit Creates Unwanted Record; Rabada achieves special feat | Cricket

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma achieved a forgetful record in his last outing before the upcoming ICC World T20 2022 on Tuesday. After playing a heavy blow against the team managed by Temba Bavuma in Guwahati, the veteran Indian captain hoped to extend his streak of free goals in the third and final T20I of the recently concluded series between India and South Africa.

However, Rohit was stopped in his tracks by speed ace Kagiso Rabada as the star batsman couldn’t even open his account in the deadlock between the two teams at Indore’s Holkar Cricket Stadium. Indian captain Rohit, leading T20I runs in the history of the game, perished for a duck to write an unwanted record in the high scoring contest against South Africa.

Rohit received his marching orders at the second ball of India’s innings in Indore. Rabada tricked Rohit with an inswinger to hand him an undesirable record in the game’s shortest format. Fired for nothing in the dead match against South Africa, Rohit recorded the tenth duck of his illustrious T20I career. Interestingly, this was the 43rd time the Indian skipper had been sacked for scoring in single digits in T20I cricket.

No other batsman in the history of T20I cricket has recorded more single-digit scores than the Indian captain. Rohit overtook Ireland’s Kevin O’Brien to record his 43rd single-digit record in the men’s T20I on Sunday. O’Brien has 42 single-digit scores to his name, while Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim has played a mediocre 40 strokes in T20I cricket. The list also includes players like Mohammad Nabi (39) and Shahid Afridi (37).

Rabada, who outplayed Rohit in the first over, has equaled Tim Southtee’s unique feat of seeing off Rohit the most times in international cricket. Rabada and Southee have sacked Rohit a record 11 times in international cricket.

Rohit was sacked for a duck while makeshift starter Rishabh Pant went 27-for-14 in the 3rd T20I. Veteran glover Dinesh Karthik smashed 46 of 21 balls, though his hitting exploits were in vain as India lost the match by 49 runs.
