Polizzi becomes the first woman to hold the position of national president of the D2 football committee

HICKORY, NC – Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations Monica Gordy Polizzi was named chairman of the NCAA Division II National Football Committee. Polizzi is the first woman to serve on the National Football Committee and now becomes the first woman to serve as its president.

“Being part of the national football committee for the past few years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career so far,” Polizzi said. “I have been fortunate to work alongside and learn from incredible NCAA coaches, administrators and staff during my tenure on the football committee. Our goal is to ensure all students -Division II football athletes an exceptional championship experience, and I look forward to leading those efforts this year with my committee colleagues.”

In her role as president, Polizzi is working hand-in-hand with the NCAA to bring the 2022 Division II National Soccer Championship to McKinney, Texas. She will work with the Committee on weekly Regional Rankings, organize weekly Regional Advisory Committee calls and bring this information to the National Committee as well as assist in the bracketing of the 2022 DII Playoffs. Polizzi will coordinate with McKinney ISD Stadium on match logistics and will work with ESPN on broadcast requirements for the match. She will be the venue representative for playoff games and will help run the entire domestic playoff field instead of helping coordinate support for Super Region 2 as she has done in years past.

Polizzi’s appointment to the National Committee began in 2019, the first of a four-year appointment. She was nominated by her peers to serve on the committee and has served as Co-Chair of Super Region 2 for the past three years.

Polizzi becomes one of three people from the South Atlantic Conference to have served on this committee. She joins Mars Hill head coach Tim Clifton and Wingate head coach Joe Reich.
