United lost 1-0 in the first 30 minutes of the game after Gross found the back of the net. The German midfielder then added another nine minutes later.
Keane was furious with the result after the game and blamed United’s lack of quality in the middle of the park for their devastating defeat.
Speaking after the game, he said Fred and McTominay would never be ‘good enough’ for the Red Devils to ‘get back to the top’.
The Sky Sports expert said: “The [lack of] midfielder’s decision-making and football intelligence, especially Fred.

Keane said Fred lacked football intelligence and that he and Scott McTominay would never be good enough to bring United back to the top.
“I’ve been talking about this for a long time – Fred and [Scott] McTominay is not good enough.
“They won’t get Manchester United back to competing at the top. We see that week in and week out. They’re not up to it.
The midfield duo have also been bullied by Robbie Mustoe – who said the club haven’t brought in enough quality this summer.
At half-time, the pundit blamed the Red Devils’ poor transfer window for their terrible performance.
NBC pundit Robbie Mustoe blamed Red Devils transfer window for terrible display
He said McTominay and Fred were ‘nowhere near good enough’ to play for Man United
“I’ll keep it short and simple,” Mustoe said on NBC. “I know Ronaldo is in the headlines, but the biggest headline for me is that the transfer window for United has been incredibly disappointing. They did not bring any quality.
‘When you still have it and I’m sorry because there’s a part of Scott McTominay’s game that I like, Fred too, but the quality required in the middle of the park for this football club is nowhere near enough good for providing forward players out there.
‘Sancho and Rashford [are] having a good pre-season, they haven’t seen the ball because the ball keeps being given away by midfield players, I can put together a six-fold and seven-fold reel.
“It sounds simple, but if your midfield players don’t have a pass, positively forward, to involve the forwards, they’re going to play and give the ball away.” Brighton have been brilliant.
Frenkie de Jong is still Manchester United’s top midfield target under manager Ten Hag
“The quality is lacking at this football club. The players they brought in are fine, but Man United are fine, it’s not good enough.
Ten Hag brought in Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen this summer, but fans and pundits alike called for more quality.
Frenkie de Jong is one of the players United have been linked with. The Red Devils have been chasing the Barcelona midfielder all summer, with the hunt at various intervals looking both over and futile.
