Santarém promotes its rural tourism offer

The municipality of Santarém in Portugal continues to strengthen its tourist capacity with quality accommodation alternatives. João Leite, vice-mayor and responsible for tourism, visited several hotel units of the municipality to meet the owners and listen to their comments, while informing them of the different measures that the municipality has implemented in the field of tourism. Leite’s visit aimed to deepen common strategies for the promotion of the region, as well as an opportunity to assess growth as recently revealed by Tourism of Portugal.

The data shows an increase in demand that has been accompanied by a growing response capacity in terms of overnight stays, confirming the consolidation of Santarém as a tourist destination of excellence.

The first visit began at the recently opened Rural Tourism QR Casas de Campo, a high quality unit, where good taste, comfort and the equestrian component make the differentiation of this business. António Ferreira, owner of the accommodation, praises the potential of Santarém stating that “the historic center of our city is magnificent, we have a gastronomy of reference”.

Being the capital of Ribatejo, the horse is one of our main attraction factors.

The following meetings took place at Quinta da Cabrita, Casa da Amieira and Quinta M. Just 45 minutes from Lisbon and 10 minutes from Santarém, Quinta Cabrita is an 18th century farmhouse and its park, beautifully guarded by traditional yellow walls cream and high doors. Inside, cobblestone paths meander around old farm buildings and shared spaces.

There are five houses, each renovated in keeping with their rustic surroundings. Features such as high ceilings combine with round bay windows, free standing baths and open log fires to surprise and delight. There are huge cabinets filled with ancient tomes and glassware, tactile wooden boxes, and original artwork.

Spa facilities include a waterfall pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and massage and treatment rooms. All are nicely tiled and give a feeling of both lightness and intimacy. Hotel guests have free and exclusive use of the swimming pool and jacuzzi.

The measures will reinforce our strategy to increase the number of visitors coming to Santarém

Teixeira Leite thanked the entrepreneurs for the bet made in Santarém, reinforcing that “the municipality needs the mobilization of everyone, the hotel units are our privileged strategic partners, so we count with you to divulge Santarém more and more. The measures we are putting in place are combined with the quality of our various hotel units.

The new tourism website, the new leaflets and the new tourist map, as well as the possibility for tourist units to use the municipality’s guided tour services free of charge, were measures presented by Teixeira Leite and very well received by contractors.
