– Defending Sun Belt East Division champion App State kicks off its 2022 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 3, when it hosts state foe UNC at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT live on ESPNU.

The Tar Heels’ first visit to Kidd Brewer Stadium has already been sold out. The Mountaineers won the last meeting – 34-31 at UNC in 2019.

App State’s non-conference slate also includes a visit to Texas A&M (Sept. 10) and home games against The Citadel (Oct. 1) and Robert Morris (Oct. 29).

The Mountaineers were chosen to win the Sun Belt East Division and qualify for their fourth Sun Belt Football Championship game in the event’s five-year history in the pre-season coaches’ poll. Sun Belt 2022 football game from last month.

Third-year head coach Shawn Clark will lead a roster that returns 10 All-Sun Belt selections as of 2021 and had eight players named to 2022 preseason All-Sun Belt teams. The Mountaineers also had 12 student- athletes on national pre-season awards watch lists ahead of the 2022 campaign.

App State has moved to a bowling game in each of the past seven seasons.
