SJSU legend Dick Vermeil inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame

CANTON, Ohio –San Jose State legend Dick Vermeil was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. Vermeil is the 28th head coach to be inducted and joins fellow SJSU alumnus Bill Walsh (1931-2007), inducted in 1993. Bryant Young, who coached the SJSU defensive line in 2010, was also inducted .

“We are thrilled and proud that the Hall of Fame has selected legendary Spartan, Dick Vermeil, to be recognized for his career,” the San Jose State head football coach said. Vermeil joined the San Jose State football team in 1956 as one of four Spartan quarterbacks and started the 1957 season throwing for 580 yards and a touchdown. He would finish his time at SJSU with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in physical education before embarking on coaching.
