What are the most expensive new cars in New York?

STATEN ISLAND, NY — New Yorkers looking to buy a new car can expect to pay well above the expected price, with some vehicles nearly 25% overvalued.

With new vehicle production slowing around the world due to ongoing microchip shortages, lower inventory levels have led to higher prices for consumers.

A new study from iSeeCars.com, an automotive research firm, found that new cars in New York are currently trading above their expected price points, making it difficult for potential buyers to find a good deal.

“Dealers have responded to market conditions by pricing cars above MSRP, earning a higher profit on specific models to help offset lower sales volumes from restricted new car production,” said Karl Brauer, Executive Analyst at iSeeCars.

The study analyzed New York State vehicle sales records beginning in September and found that, on average, these vehicles are trading 10.2% above manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), making that buyers pay approximately $4,140 more than expected.

Some new car models have been disproportionately affected by rising prices, with certain vehicles currently trading 20% more than their New York sticker price.

NATIONAL NUMBERS

In addition to state-specific data, the researchers analyzed the nation’s record sales of 1.9 million new vehicles to determine the most expensive cars nationwide.

“In today’s market, consumers are willing to pay well above sticker prices for new cars because inventory is so tight and because they know new car prices aren’t expected to improve until 2023 at the earliest.” Brauer said.
