Worst to First: Ranking SEC Football Uniforms

When you hop between chains on a Saturday in the fall, it’s the helmets and uniforms that grab the most attention.

Branding is an integral part of business today and college football is following suit with some of the most iconic brands in the country. And when it comes to TV, that helmet/uniform combo is perhaps the program’s most important form of branding.

So which SEC teams are most successful in conveying their brand via their team uniform?

Below, we rank our favorite SEC uniforms from worst to first:

Another SEC Worst to First Series: College Towns | head coaching jobs | stadiums | helmets | logos | living mascots | traditions

Mississippi State

There is nothing there. No one really considers Mississippi State football that exciting to watch, and its bland uniforms don’t help much.

Texas A&M

Thomas Shea – USA TODAY Sports

Similar to Mississippi State, the Aggies just don’t do much with their looks.

Matt Bush-USA TODAY Sports

I mean, I don’t hate it. But it’s boring. And it reminds me of Vanderbilt football (obviously), and that’s not a good thing.

Denny Medley – USA TODAY Sports

Not bad at all, but a bit fancy for me.

Caroline from the south

Jeff Blake – USA TODAY Sports

I associate it with “Sandstorm” and an electric vibe, so I like it. But when it’s a noon game and you see those uniforms on your TV, you probably keep turning around.

We’re at the point where I like it but I don’t like it. Auburns are classics, but not better than the others.

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Personally, I love the helmets and the look. Kentucky often trots in different uniforms, and if you ask me, they’re usually on point.

Jay Biggerstaff – USA TODAY Sports

I love the Arkansas white-on-white look the most. It’s clean.

Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports

Big, bold and orange, the iconic Power T stands the test of time. It’s right there with Georgia’s “Power G” as the country’s most recognizable single-letter logo. But that’s just the helmet. The rest of the uniforms are classic and scream “Rocky Top”.

The Gators blue is iconic and a classic, pairs well with the orange and this helmet screams college.

Butch Dill – USA TODAY Sports

As classic as possible. Alabama uniforms are as consistent as the football team and invoke fear.

Dale Zanine – USA TODAY Sports

LSU is just intimidating. From its mascot to its stadium, the Tigers do more than enough with their uniform to keep the fear alive.

It’s clean, projects strength and it’s an iconic image. I don’t know if there’s a more recognizable helmet and uniform in all of college football.

Ole Miss

Peter Thomas – USA TODAY Sports

If you don’t like that, you don’t like college football. The powder blue with the white helmet is as good as it gets.
